Each day these Hope Project volunteers cook large quantities of donated rice and vegetables for the many orphans who come to one of the nine outdoor feeding centres in rural Africa.
These volunteers also live in extremely poverty with inadequate housing. The payment for all their hard work is donated food for themselves and their families.
These children and many others in the squatters camp have very little food or clothing and rely on Hope Project for their daily nourishment. They receive food just once a day in the afternoon.
Many families still live in these squatters camps but the government is in a process of rehousing the worst families in one and two roomed brick buildings with a tap to share between several families but without electricity.
Many of the inhabited shacks are in this state of disrepair and need much work doing to them. Nancy of The Thandukuphila Centre with money donated from One Life is doing her best to get as many shacks as possible repaired as quickly as possible.
