Sick Mother Leaves Baby On Doorstep
Yesterday, July 17th, I heard from Lihle, Nancy's eldest foster child. She told me that yesterday morning she found a baby abandoned on Nancy's doorstep wearing only an old vest and with a letter attached.
The mother had written asking Nancy to care for her child as she was now dying of Aids and could no longer care for her baby girl.
The police are trying to contact the mother to get some help for her and Lihle contacted Social Services who asked that Nancy could keep the baby, at least for the moment. The baby is three months old and was checked over at the medical centre who said she was healthy but under nourished and very cold. Anyhow I told Lihle to take some of the money I have sent and buy the baby what it needs and that i will send some parcels from England with baby clothes for now and for when the baby is the next size up.
Eira Endersbee of St Anne's church has quickly knitted two warm tops with hoods for the baby, two different sizes and Elaine carter of Chingford has also knitted clothes for the baby and also brought items for her so next week two parcels will be sent by air and these should be of great help in caring for this little girl.
